Let's Be Honest, Shall We?

Today I wanted to open the conversation about the need for honesty in this day in age. The image above represents that the road to honesty is long and difficult, but it can be beautiful as well. The rise of social media and the internet as a whole, has made it easier for people to be too honest with one other. MTV has even made money from producing shows like “The Real World”, “The Challenge”, and “Catfish”, shows that are based on people suffering from this phenomenon of being too honest but not trusting people. These themes of deception and lies are at the root of some of the problems everyday people have. Honesty is by definition means free from deception (Webster’s American English Dictionary). Constructive honesty is something that is a rare artifact in these types of shows, today’s politics, our own personal lives, and sometimes even in the news. Maybe if people in positions of power were more honest with themselves then they would be more honest with those who trusted them enough to appoint them to that position. Being honest with one’s self seems to be what most of us find most difficult to. Once we become truly honest with ourselves then being honest with others will come naturally. Today people need to be more constructively honest with themselves and others than this world of ours could start moving forward to a more positive place. I want to leave you with the words of Gandhi "Be truthful, gentle, and fearless".

Hellos and Merry Christmases

Merry Christmas and welcome to my weekly blog Afro-Butterfly. I am a current college student but will be graduating in May of 2015. YAY! I am wanting to go into publishing or public relations after school. I wanted to start this blog like it says in the blog description to voice my opinions about issues going on in the world around us. This blog will talk about everything from fashion to politics. No subject will be off limits. I will voice my opinions in a respectful manner and please keep in mind that it is just that my opinion. You may agree or disagree with what I have to say, but if you want to voice you opinion because this is how conversation is started. Again keep in mind before posting, that there is a distinct difference between an unsupported opinion, which can be thoughtless and offensive to others, and an opinion that is factually supported and are intended to spark positive conversation. There are too many opinions of the first kind than there are of the second. My goal is to produce more of the second kind and help those who feel that way as well. Ultimately this will probably become a news related political blog but not always. I will take a page from the nightly news I watch each night that I will end each of my posts with something positive that has happen to me personally or someone else whose story will inspire and needs to be shared. I hope to change the world's perspective of one another into a positive one.
